2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition

Interview

What was your reaction to getting into the Swimsuit Issue?
Well, my agency played a joke on me, saying that they heard back from Sports Illustrated but they said your boobs aren't big enough. I was like, what?! I couldn't believe it, but my agent was laughing hysterically and I looked back up at him and he said, 'You got it!' Then I started freaking out. I jumped out of the chair and started hitting him because he played a joke on me. I was pretty excited. Every issue is a year-to-year thing, and when I got called the second and third time, I was just as excited. It's like the first time all over again.
In all honesty, is modeling really that hard?
It's not brain surgery or rocket science but like everything in this world, there are good things and bad things. People don't see the dark side of our industry where you always have to travel by yourself. It can get lonely and you get caught up in a world that could make you a worse person, so in that aspect it's hard. Actually putting clothes on taking pictures, that's not so hard.
At what point in your career do you know you've made it?
I guess it's all personal as to what you think made it means. I still think I have a few more things I have to do before I can make it. I haven't achieved all the goals I've wanted in my career so I think when I do that, I think I'll have made it. I would love to get on the cover of Sports Illustrated some day and have a cosmetic campaign or do Victoria's Secret as a regular girl. That's the next level. That's when you know you've made it.
Happiness is...
Happiness is when you can be content with everything you have in your life; even the bad stuff and always look at the positive side. Just being happy with where you are. You might not be the wealthiest person but if you're content and pleased with what have, you'll be happy.
If you could change one thing in the past year, what would it be?
I'm not a person who regrets a lot. Maybe there was something I didn't do that I wanted to do, but I can't think of anything because my theme this past year was doing whatever I wanted to do and living for myself. But there is one thing I regretted. I just got a puppy a few months ago and I took her to the park on Halloween and this guy who was dressed up as the Joker wanted to pet her and I said 'OK, whatever, why not?' She was still on her leash and she likes people so I thought it was OK. So he's petting her and she's liking it and I'm talking to my girlfriend who was with me and all of sudden he literally picked up my puppy and started running away. Thank God, I had the leash on her so I yanked her out of his arms and I started freaking out. It scared her. I was screaming at the guy, 'You can't steal somebody's puppy!' And then he said he was joking and I said, 'No, you don't do that!' So if I can change one thing it's having strangers, especially Jokers, pet my dog.
What makes you feel sexy?
Girls are difficult in this sense because it can be a lot of things. It can be what you're wearing that day or if someone gave you a compliment. For me it's being in a man's button up shirt. I don't know. It's being in your boyfriend's sweatshirt or something. That always makes me feel sexy. The whole stealing your boyfriend's clothing makes me feel sexy. It might not be the most flattering thing on me but it makes me feel sexy.
Who is your dream guy?
If I knew who my dream guy was I wouldn't be single right now. I'm from Texas and I'm a traditional Southern girl with manners. I guess I would have to say my dream guy would be one who opens the door for me, wants to take care of me even though I'm very stubborn and say that I want to take care of myself and pays the bill. It's nice to know that I don't have to. And someone that I can laugh with because I always have to laugh, that's very important to me. Someone I can have a conversation with and someone that's not lazy. Laziness gets under my skin for some reason. At the end of the day it's all about chemistry.
Do real guys have a shot?
Of course, real guys have more of a shot than other guys. It's cool because when I'm dating someone who's not in the industry it's refreshing, because I'm learning about somebody's life that is completely different than mine and everything we talk about is new. It's not like we know what each other is talking about so it keeps the conversation going because you can ask questions all the time and you're interested and want to know what's going on and vice versa. If they're not in my industry, I want to tell them every little detail and not just assume that they know.
How much attention do you pay to nutrition and exercise, or is it all natural?
I pay a lot of attention to it. I'm not obsessed with it by any means. At the end of the day it's all about living a healthy lifestyle. Being a model, your entire world revolves around the way you look. Girls already obsess about that stuff, but it's magnified when you're a model. At the beginning, it drove me insane but now I just changed my mentality and I live healthy. If I live this way, I'm going to live longer, and that's the most important thing.
If you had to play matchmaker for a day, what celebrities would you pair up?
I kind of like random couples for some reason; couples you would never imagine, so I would pick George Clooney and Britney Spears. They would be a very interesting couple.
What meal do you miss from home?
Every time I come home my first and last meal has to be cheese enchiladas from this Mexican restaurant in Houston called Los Cucos. It is so good. I actually had it last night.
Every girl has her dating checklist. What are your top three deal breakers when dating?
First if they are paying more attention to their Blackberry or iPhone or whatever than to you, that's a total no go. If they don't open the door for you, especially on a first date, they got to really to step it up. And if I don't laugh once on the date you ain't getting a call back.
What is your most memorable first?
My most memorable first was when I got my driver's license. I remember it was a school day and I was so excited and my parents allowed me to go to school late so I could go to the DMV early in the morning so I could drive home from school by myself. So I went there and I had my cute little birthday outfit on and it was so funny. My girlfriends decorated my locker at school and then I got to drive all my girlfriends home after school.
People have said I look like...
I get Amanda Peet, but a blonde version of her. Sometimes when I watch a movie I can see it.
The world's hottest athlete is...
The world's hottest would have to be David Beckham, but there are some other cute soccer players like Ronaldo. Soccer players are really cute, I don't know why. I wouldn't watch their games on TV but I would go to a game if I had the opportunity.
